I have an email subscription to a daily delivery of quotations from the writings and sermons of Henry Nouwen, a priest, theologian, author and speaker. You can sign up for them too. They come pastor-recommended.
Yesterday’s quote still has me in its grip and seems to be begging me to pass it along, it is so penetrating, perceptive and poignant. So I shall:
“The human heart yearns for love: love without conditions, limitations, or restrictions. But no human being is capable of offering such love, and each time we demand it we set ourselves on the road to violence.
How then can we live nonviolent lives? We must start by realizing that our restless hearts, yearning for perfect love, can only find that love through communion with the One who created them.”
